Arkema has announced the proposed acquisition by the Bostik-Nitta joint-venture of the industrial adhesives of Nitta-Gelatin Inc., as well as the construction of a new world-scale adhesives plant in Japan. Arkema announces the expansion of the geographic distribution territory of Terra Firma for the Orgasol® and Rilsan® D products for coating additive applications, effective February 1, 2018. Terra Firma’s distribution territory will now extend from the mid-Atlantic to the southwestern US. The expansion includes the states of Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado.
Effective April 1st, 2018, or as existing contracts permit, Arkema is increasing by 6 to 9% the prices of its Kynar® fluoropolymer product ranges in Asia Pacific. This price increase is required due to ongoing increases in material costs, as well as the investments that Arkema continues to make in R&D, compliance, and capacity expansion to accompany its customers’ growth.

Palmer Holland’s distribution territory will now extend from New England, across the northern US, to the west coast. In 2017, Patricia Beurdeley, the Development & Innovation Leader for Architectural Coatings for Arkema in the EMEA region, led and compiled research related to hydrophobic acrylic emulsions used in exterior and interior paint formulations. The results of that research were first unveiled by Werner Ullenboom, Sales Director for Arkema Coating Resins in Northern Europe in November, 2017, at the Verband der Ingenieure des Lack und Farbenfaches e.V. (VILF) Annual Conference.
Effective January 1, 2018 or as contracts allow, the Coating Resins business unit of Arkema will increase the price of certain resins. The increase will range between 50 to 150 Euros per ton for the Solvent-borne, and 30 to 60 Euros per ton for the Water-borne resins, depending on product type.
At the One Planet Summit convened on 12 December 2017 by Emmanuel Macron in Paris and attended by 27 heads of state, 91 French companies, including Arkema, deliver an assessment of their investments since the historic agreement reached at the 21st Conference of the Parties on climate change held in Paris in 2015. Quentin Vlamynck, the young skipper of Arkema 3, crossed the finish line of the second leg of the race Mini-Transat La Boulangère race at 11:23 (French time), in Le Marin (Martinique). He came in 6th after 14 days, 21 hours, 15 minutes and 20 seconds at sea. A challenging crossing on board an extremely innovative machine.
On 16 November at 8.49 am (French time), Lalou Roucayrol and Alex Pella crossed the finish line of the Transat Jacques Vabre in Salvador de Bahia (Brazil) as winners in the Multi50 category. After sailing from Le Havre on 5 November, the Arkema pair covered the course’s 4,350 theoretical miles in 10 days 19 hours 14 minutes and 19 seconds, averaging a speed of 16.81 knots. An outstanding performance for these skippers who managed to overcome both technical and physical hurdles to ultimately claim victory. Lalou and Alex also relied on the invaluable support of Karine Fauconnier who was in charge of routing from land.
The Formnext tradeshow held in Frankfurt (Germany) from 14 to 17 November 2017 is the opportunity for Arkema to announce a development partnership in high temperature powders with EOS, pioneer and innovator of additive manufacturing solutions, and showcase its wide range of 3D printing solutions.
