Today, Arkema successfully placed its first ever Green Bond fully dedicated to the financing of its new world-scale plant in Singapore to manufacture 100% bio-based Rilsan® polyamide 11. Arkema, a world leader in molecular sieves manufacturing, has appointed Megafarma, the Mexican affiliate of Azelis Americas, LLC as its exclusive distributor to handle sales of molecular sieves in the coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomers (CASE) markets in Mexico, effective October 1, 2020. The sale of Arkema’s Functional Polyolefins business to SK Global Chemical was finalized on June 1st and is fully in line with the strategy to refocus the Group’s activities on Specialty Materials.
Bostik, the adhesive solutions business line of the Arkema group, and Ontex, a leading international personal hygiene group, has donated over one million feminine hygiene products to support education for girls in Zambia. Two containers each filled with 507,000 packets of feminine hygiene products and shipped by Ontex docked in Lusaka (Zambia) on April 25th.
The American Chemistry Council (ACC) has honored Arkema’s Calvert City, Kentucky plant with its prestigious Energy Efficiency Award, adding an “Exceptional Merit” designation. According to ACC, this honor recognizes broad programs to achieve energy-efficiency improvements. Arkema Inc. won the award with “Exceptional Merit” in 2019 as well, for its corporate ArkEnergy program.

At the online JEC innovation awards ceremony, which took place today, Arkema was twice awarded with its partners for two major innovations in thermoplastic composites for aeronautics and railway applications.
Arkema Inc. contributed hand sanitizer solution to the New York State Office of Emergency Management, Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, Texas Division of Emergency Management and Tennessee Emergency Management Agency. It is meant for distribution to health organizations in areas that have been hard hit by COVID-19.
The company repurposed a production line at its plant in Geneseo, N.Y. to manufacture 10,000 gallons – enough to fill 110,000 12 oz. bottles – of hand sanitizer solution. This solution, made with the company’s own hydrogen peroxide, was donated to New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Texas, in which the company has key operations. Brenntag and ExxonMobil helped make this possible.
The Group’s results are in line with expectations, in a first quarter marked by the coronavirus outbreak in Asia and its spread to Europe in March. Stripping out the coronavirus impact, the Group’s performance, in a less favorable economic environment than in 2019, was supported by the resilience of Specialty Materials and, in particular, strong growth of the Adhesive Solutions segment. Moreover, the balance sheet and liquidity levels remain very solid.
The current health crisis spares nobody, and every single company is impacted to some degree. Initiated last year by the Arkema Group and the Lalou Multi team, the construction of the new Multi50 Arkema 4 in Verdon-sur-Mer has also felt the fall-out from this crisis: loss of staff, problems in procuring materials, and sanitary measures put in place on a construction site where over 20 people would normally be working. Despite the delay, the construction and assembly of the new trimaran are making steady progress, and the launch of this new machine, under the watchful eye of Quentin Vlamynck, has been rescheduled for July 2020.
