Plexiglas® for transportation
Acrylic resins for automotive interiors and exteriors
Known for excellent optical clarity, toughness and weatherability, Plexiglas® acrylic resins have been used in interior and exterior automotive applications for decades. Developed for American automotive manufacturers such as Ford, General Motors and Daimler Chrysler, Plexiglas® resins are often used in rear combination lamps, reflectors, interior ambient lighting and interior and exterior trim.
Plexiglas® P-55 acrylic sheet for Mil-Spec applications
As populations steadily increase, the aerospace and aviation industries heavily depend on Plexiglas® cell acrylic sheet to meet the demand of rising transportation services while keeping passengers safe. While similar products have been used in the past, Plexiglas® has re-invented cell acrylic sheets that can easily be stretched for Mil-Spec and aviation applications without compromising quality or durability.

Kynar Flex® for automotive fiber optics
Kynar Flex® PVDF resins have recently emerged as a new and alternative technology for wiring in automobiles. Plastic optical fibers using Kynar Flex® PVDF, which reflects light back into the fiber core, are less expensive, require less power to operate and allow for faster data transmission than traditional copper wiring. Arkema provides materials for all elements of plastic optical fiber manufacturing, allowing for seamless integration in the assembly process.
Polystrand® tapes for composites
Arkema continues to innovate in the automotive and transportation markets with lightweight Polystrand®, already in use by North American automotive manufacturers in a variety of applications. Polystrand® Continuous Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastics (CFRTP) are 30% to 50% lighter than steel or aluminum, recyclable, and provide design flexibility. These ideal properties make Polystrand® suitable for use in a variety automotive and transportation applications, including impact and abrasion resistant panels for the rail and trucking industry and front-end reinforcement in automobiles.
